Idil Yunkus
The young Turkish violinist İdil Yunkuş (2002) started violin lessons at the age of 5 with her father Selahattin Yunkuş. She continued her music education at Mersin University State Conservatory with Lily Tchumburzidze, after which she moved to Istanbul in 2017 for lessons with Prof. Çigdem İyicil. In 2018 Idil Yunkuş came to the Netherlands to study first at the Conservatorium van Amsterdam with Ilya Grubert and then with Theodora Geraets at the Royal Conservatory in The Hague. She completes her studies with Janet Krause.
Over the years, Yunkuş has participated in master classes with Cihat Aşkın, Anna Schnarch, Schlomo Mintz, Alexander Kagan, Mikhail Gotsdiner, Dora Schwarzberg and Stephan Jackiw. From 2014 to 2022 she was a member of the DÇSO (Doğuş Children’s Symphony Orchestra) and the TUGFO (Turkish National Youth Philarmonic Orchestra) in which she also played as concertmaster and where she developed a great passion for orchestral playing. In January 2023 she was concertmaster at the winter project of the National Youth Orchestra.
At a young age, Idil has performed as a soloist with several Turkish national orchestras, such as the Başkent Chamber Orchestra, the Mersin University Orchestra, KODA (Karşıyaka Çambel Orchestra) and the CRR Istanbul Symphony Orchestra with works by Sarasate, Mendelssohn and Vieuxtemps, among others.
Idil is currently active as a chamber musician in the Kali Quartet and the Ensemble Orochi. In the near future she also wants to focus on and engage in interdisciplinary art.
